Lacrosse
If you've never tried lacrosse, you're missing out. Lacrosse is a sport very similar to hockey, in it's layout and style of play. It uses the same 3 forwards, 2 defenceman, and 1 goalie set up as hockey, with offensive and defensive zones. Lacrosse can be played on ice rinks that have been covered up, but is mostly played on other outdoor fields. The Canada West Field Lacrosse League (which is a league for men 18 and up) has a team in Abbotsford, called the Abbotsford Attack,. The Abbotsford Attack typically play all over the Fraser Valley and Vancouver area, with their opponents located in Burnaby, Ladner, New Westminster, Port Coquitlam and Vancouver. The Lacrosse season is typically in the fall and winter (September to December), but Provincials and other tournaments which the Canada West Field Lacrosse League participates in sometimes run into January. The best teams from the leagues around the province make it to Provincials, and from their the best make it to the nationals. Last season an all BC finals was held at the nationals between the Whalley Ballers and the Ladner Pioneers, with Whalley coming out on top. For smaller kids, the Abbotsford Warriors also plays in a similar league. Kids ages 5-8 play in the Mini Tyke and Tyke leagues, the 9-12 year old play in the Novice and Peewee leagues and the 13-16 year old play in Bantam and Midget leagues. Anyone can drop in for try outs, the locations, dates and times of which can be found using the links below.
